FAQ's
Yes. Solar panels generate from daylight, not just direct sun, so they keep producing on overcast days, and long summer days help output. How much you generate depends on your roof's direction, pitch and shading, which is why we survey every home before we quote.
Usually not. Most home solar installations in Scotland are permitted development. Check first if your home is a listed building (which needs listed building consent), is in a conservation area (where limits on roof and wall positions can apply), or if you want ground-mounted panels. We check this for you before we quote.
Your local network operator, SSEN, covers Perthshire and Tayside. Systems up to 3.68kW per phase are normally notified under G98, while larger systems and many solar-plus-battery setups need approval under G99 before installation. We submit this for you. Approval on rural networks can take longer, so we flag it at quote stage.
It can be if you use a lot of electricity in the evening or early morning, when solar isn't generating. A battery stores surplus daytime power so you use more of what you generate and export less. Whether it pays back depends on your usage, tariff and system size, so we model it for your home.
In most cases, yes. It depends on your existing inverter and set-up, and the change may need a grid notification or approval. We check your current system at the survey and tell you exactly what's needed.
Not for standard solar and batteries at the moment. The Home Energy Scotland solar and battery loan closed to new applications in June 2024. What does help is 0% VAT on residential solar and batteries (currently until 31 March 2027) and Smart Export Guarantee payments for surplus power. We'll talk you through your options at your free consultation.
Yes. A solar-compatible smart charger can prioritise surplus solar power while your car is plugged in, with or without a battery. Solar won't always cover all your charging, especially in winter or overnight, so we usually design solar, battery and charger together.
Funding is limited and changes often. Support has mainly been aimed at flat owners and tenants rather than people in houses, and Scottish grant rounds have opened and paused before. We'll tell you what's open when you request a quote.

Most home solar installations take 1 to 3 days, and we confirm the schedule at your consultation. Where your system needs G99 approval, that is secured before installation begins, so we build it into your timeline.
